Sony is currently in talks with Amazon to develop a series based on the PlayStation franchise God of War. The franchise, which first started on PlayStation 2 in 2005, has had numerous sequels, the most notable of which was the 2018 reboot simply called God of War. With a new sequel coming in 2022 titled God of War Ragnarok, it looks like Sony is now exploring other options to expand the franchise’s reach.
Sony is currently negotiating with Amazon to bring a God of War series to Prime Video. The series will be live-action in nature and will likely have The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby as executive producers. Additionally, Rafe Judkins, who is currently producing The Wheel of Time for Prime Video, is also said to be associated with the project. It’s worth emphasizing that the series is still only in the negotiation phase, but Amazon is doing everything they can to secure the rights for this adaptation.
If it all goes through, this will be another fantasy based series for Prime Video and another video game. Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke stated that Amazon would continue to explore the fantasy genre as evidenced by the record-breaking The Wheel of Time and the upcoming The Lord of the Rings series. The platform is also coming with a Fallout series and is working on a deal for a Mass Effect series. So a lot to come
