It has been known for a while that the blue hedgehog Sonic will get help from Tails and Knuckles in his next movie. We now know who’s going to be recording the latter’s voice, and it’s not exactly a small name.
Idris Elba (Thor, Suicide Squad) himself took to Twitter to say that he is voicing the fan favorite Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He shared a teaser poster and the famous catch phrase of the character:
The sequel will be directed by Jeff Fowler, who also directed the first film. The screenplay for this second part is by Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington. The rest of the cast includes Ben Schwartz (Sonic), James Marsden and Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik).
The first Sonic film came out in February 2020, just before the world went into lockdown, and quickly raked in $300 million worldwide. The movie got some pretty heavy backlash from fans on the appearance of Sonic in the first trailer. It was then decided to redesign Sonic and animate the character from scratch again. This seemed to be the right choice as fans loved the changes.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release in April 2022.
