Ghost of Tsushima gets film adaptation by director John Wick

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions will probably make a lot of gamers happy. Serious work is being done on a film adaptation of the hugely successful game Ghost of Tsushima. Chad Stahelski will be responsible for directing. He made his name primarily as a director of the first three John Wick films in recent years and is about to embark on John Wick: Chapter 4.

Just like the game, the film will take place in the year 1274 on the island of Tsushima. Mongol armies invade the island, defeating almost every samurai on the island. One of the last remaining samurai is Jim Sakai, who has to forget his training and code of honor as a samurai in order to win. He must choose the way of the Ghost.

As far as some fans are concerned, voice actor Daisuke Tsuji should return as the film’s protagonist. Tsuji provided the facial capture and voice work for main character Jin Sakai. Daisuke appears to be totally onboard with the idea of him starring in the movie.

Sony has been making work of getting popular games to the big screen. For example, an Uncharted movie is still on the way and an HBO series based on The Last of Us is being worked on. In any case, the success of Ghost of Tsushima is abundantly clear. According to Sony, this game from developer Sucker Punch has already sold more than 6.5 million copies. The counter was already at 2.4 million after just three days. Not surprisingly, there are already rumors about a possible sequel.
