Sony has hired 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct their Uncharted movie. Shawn Levy, who was previously going to direct the movie, quit after getting the green light for another movie called Free Guy. Tom Holland will still keep his role as Nathan Drake. The movie is expected to go into production at the end of 2019.
Talks about an Uncharted movie already surfaced in 2009. The quitting of multiple directors and disagreements about the script have caused for huge delays. Levy was already working on the movie since 2016, but further details were never announced.
In 2017, Tom Holland was casted to take the leading role after his role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The script, written by Joe Carnahan, is a prequel to the Drake videogames and will see a young drake learning his ways from his mentor Sully.
