Dmitry Glukhovsky’s bestselling novel, Metro 2033, was released as a videogame in 2010. It was received very well by critics and users all over the world and became a popular culthit resulting in several sequels and spin-offs. Second sequel Metro Exodus is even set to arrive this year to the consoles. But what do we know so far about the novel coming to the big screen?
For those of you who have not read the book or played the games, Metro 2033 tells the story of Artyom, a survivor of World War 3 who hides in the vast metro system of Moscow. The metro system serves as a huge fallout shelter for the survivors. Different factions battle for control of the stations. Artyom and the others must find a way to survive in this new society which is build on new rules.
In September 2012 MGM picked up the movie rights of the franchise, however it was quickly taken out of production. 4 years later, two new producers were put on the team in the names of Michael De Luca and Stephen L’Heureux. De Luca is known for his movies such as The Social Network and will be in charge of producing Suicide Squad 2. L’Heureux has worked on titles such as The Boondock Saints and Sin City. Writer Dmitry Glukhovsky is very content with the background of the producers and has good faith in his book being translated to the big screen.
De Luca has said to translate Metro 2033 to the big screen, in similar ways as Mad Max and Hunger Games were done. The script is still being worked on and the last info we got was that the movie is still happening. We look forward hearing more and we expect it wont take much longer!
