David Leitch, also known for directing John Wick and Deadpool 2, has recently been signed to direct the upcoming Tom Clancy’s The Division. He is taking over the reigns from Stephen Gaghan who has left the video game adaption project.
Right now, the script is still being written, but the global story has been set. Two huge stars in the names of Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain have been confirmed to appear in the film already. It could be a while though before we can expect the movie in theaters. Rumours have stated it will come to the big screen in 2019.
Developed and published by Ubisoft, “Tom Clancy’s The Division” launched on PC and consoles in March 2016. The stage is set in the near future where bio-terrorists released a pandemic virus in New York City. Millions of people died and the few who survived face a society in chaos. A group of “sleeper agents”, operatives who have trained to operate in the hardest of times, are activated in an attempt to restore order.
Ubisoft recently announced that the game reached the milestone of 20 million players and a sequel is in development with more details to be unveiled at E3 next month. Perhaps we can get some more statements about the movie as well at next E3.
